Gum Treatment

QUESTIONS? FOR IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE PLEASE CALL ONE OF OUR FRIENDLY DENTAL TEAM MEMBERS AT (912) 638-9001!

Are your gums swollen & bleeding?  This is not a normal side effect of brushing and flossing.  It is a symptom of the early stages of periodontal disease called gingivitis.  If left untreated the infection will begin to effect other structures of the mouth leading to a receding gum line and bone loss. When periodontal disease is left untreated teeth can become loose and may need to be extracted. It is imperative to your overall health, not just your dental health, that you practice good oral hygiene and get regular exams and cleanings. Periodontal disease is caused by the bacteria found in plaque.  When plaque builds up on the teeth, the bacteria inflame and irritate the gum tissues causing swelling and bleeding.  In order to prevent the spread of plaque under the gum line you must brush and floss properly. However, brushing and flossing alone aren’t enough.  You need professional dental cleanings to remove plaque from hard to reach places where your toothbrush and floss cannot reach.

Research has shown that untreated periodontal disease is connected to several health complications, including:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Respiratory conditions
