What to Do When the Unexpected Strikes

Stay calm: Try to stay calm to assess the situation and figure out the best course of action. If you feel panicked, take deep breaths and focus on the task at hand.
Call our dental office: The first step in a dental emergency is to call our office and explain the situation. We will provide specific instructions and schedule an appointment if needed. The sooner you seek help, the easier it will be to treat. Call (912) 638-9001
Rinse your mouth: If you have a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it and reduce swelling. Use a cold compress on your cheek for pain and swelling from a cracked or abscessed tooth.
Take over-the-counter medication: For pain relief, take Ibuprofen or another over-the-counter pain reliever until you can see us. Do not apply aspirin directly to an abscessed tooth or gum tissue, as it can cause a painful burning sensation.
Apply pressure: If you're bleeding from your mouth, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth or gauze pad until the bleeding stops.
